MEDIA ALERT

Students, staff and community members making up the Hayward Community Coalition host the Sustain Adult Education Summit event as part of a broader effort to solve the adult education funding crisis in Hayward.

WHAT: A grassroots movement led by the Sustainability Committee for Adult Education, the Hayward Adult School chapter of HOSA (Health Occupation Students Association) and groups across Hayward united in hosting a “Sustain Adult Education Movement” to find solutions to adult education funding cuts.

The Sustain Education Summit is the first effort to convene education, government, non-profit, foundation and business sectors to develop a coordinated response to funding cuts.

Event outcomes are to develop action plans to create resources through:

• Political action – legislation and Initiative support
• Employer Workforce Development (Hayward Model Business Plan)
• Fundraising (through grantwriting, etc.)

WHO: Presentation by members of the Sustainability Committee for Adult Education

WHEN: February 20, 2010 – 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

WHERE: St. Rose Hospital — Pavilion Rooms
27200 Calaroga Avenue, Hayward, CA 94545

WHY: Education in California is facing the worst funding crisis since the Great Depression. Funding specific to adult education has been eliminated from the state budget and new, creative solutions must be found to keep the important services provided by Adult Education or else it will disappear in Hayward as it has throughout the state.
